Johnny Weir at Champions on Ice

Johnny Weir joined the Champions on Ice tour in 2004, rooming with Timothy Goebel who quickly became a friend. In his online journal Johnny wrote, "I thought since this was my first time traveling with COI that I would be an outsider but that wasn't the case at all....the more experienced skaters went out of their way to help me feel welcome....Nicole and I hit it off right away."

In 2005, Johnny wrote again of his Champions on Ice experience, "Hanging out with Marina Anissina has helped my Russian and French skills and I'm helping her with English....I really miss having Nicole Bobek on tour this year. She took care of me last year and now I have to fend for myself."

"I got to know two of my biggest inspirations, Tatiana Totmyanina and Irina Slutskaia very well.... We started going on shopping excursions and sushi dates, and by the end of tour we were fast friends."

Johnny wrote about skating for Champions on Ice, "To finish and have a roar of applause for skating your heart out for an audience every night, you realize you're doing something right. I hope I was able to show people something unique....something they can remember."

Of the 2006 Champions on Ice tour, he wrote in his online journal, "I'm so happy to be on the tour with all my friends.... Marina Anissina has been a great help and she gives me pointers almost every night so I'm trying to grow as a performer as well as an athlete. Overall, we're all just happy to be with one another....."
