About Sasha Cohen
Olympics 2006 Figure Skating Silver Medalist
Part six: Sasha Cohen Olympics 2002

Sasha Cohen successfully performed her Carmen program at U.S. Nationals Figure Skating competition in 2002, and made the Olympics team. At the Winter Olympics, she received national attention when sitting next to George Bush and asking him to speak to her mother via cellphone. She was very nervous at the Olympics, but succeeded to skate a beautiful short program. However, she fell during her long program and ended up in 4th place.

Sasha Cohen followed her Olympics performances with a poor showing at her first Worlds competition, after foolishly deciding to try jogging for the first time before competing - and for a full hour. However in spring 2002, she graduated from high school with straight A's, and also skated her ribbon program for Queen Elizabeth.

Sasha became impressed with legendary figure skating coach Tatiana Tarasova in 2002, and convinced her family to move to Connecticut to train in Simsbury with Tarasova. Tarasova choreographed Sasha's Swan Lake program, and helped Sasha improve her footwork and land triple triple combination jumps in competition.

Sasha's programs in 2002 included her short program My Sweet and Tender Beast, her long program Carmen, and exhibition numbers Hernando's Hideaway and Aria.
